Today's 10-minute walk is helping you stay fitness consistent, so let's go for a walk.

0:10.3

I saw a number the other day that blew me away.

0:15.3

I have done, I think, a couple of episodes where I'm trying to paint the bigger picture of how far

0:23.6

you've walked. Sometimes, oftentimes we are focused on the walk that we take today, how many steps we get, how far we walk.

0:36.6

And I've wanted to paint the bigger picture of,

0:42.3

okay, so when you're taking this many steps, here's how far you've walked,

0:46.3

and here's what that represents, to give you a better idea of what you're accomplishing,

0:53.3

the hard thing that you're doing. I've also taken that

0:57.9

plane a little bit higher. You know, if you've walked so many steps in a month, here's how far you've

1:03.8

walked over the course of a year. If you walk this many steps every day, here's how many steps

1:08.2

you've walked over the course of a year and here, here's how far that is. And I think that sometimes is helpful. I think focusing on the process,

1:16.2

what we're doing every day is critical, mission critical. That sometimes when we start thinking

1:22.1

too broadly, particularly about goals, fitness goals, it can be discouraging because things take time,

1:27.4

progress is slow.

1:29.3

But sometimes it's good. Just take that plane up a little bit higher, get a bigger picture of

1:33.5

what you're accomplishing so you can sit back and go, yeah, I'm doing a hard thing. Look at this.

1:41.6

I saw the number. It's an estimated number, of course, of how many steps the average

1:49.7

person takes in a lifetime and how far that is. Now, obviously, we're speaking in really

1:58.8

broad generalities.

2:11.8

And for this math exercise, the average person with the average stride, living until 80,

2:13.2

we'll walk.

2:15.1

This number blows me away.
