Summary

Two controversies reveal what was wrong with the Pharisees' and what might be wrong with us. Covering Mark 2:23-3:6 Jesus corrects the Pharisees for adding their traditions to God's commands as well as for missing out on the heart of God's commands. We'll look at how Jesus' claim that "the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath" is both a claim to deity and a claim to have the right to explain the meaning of the Old Testament law. There's also an apologetics moment today where we deal with a supposed Bible contradiction where some say Jesus was simply wrong about the Old Testament. 0:10.2	So we're going to be in Mark chapter 2, starting in verse 23. This is part 10 in the Mark series,
0:17.0	covering theology apologetics, historical insights, and simple contextual verse by verse teaching.

0:24.4	I've been saying that at the beginning of each
0:25.6	of these teachings, but I just want to remind us
0:28.0	of what our goal is going through the Gospel of Mark.
0:30.9	Each week we're going to pick up where we've left off in teaching the next
0:33.8	passage. The advantage of this is I can't skirt any issues as a teacher and you don't
0:40.2	get the filtered, preferably you don't get the filtered version of the Bible where I just teach on the
0:44.4	passages that I like teaching and ignore others and so it's verse by verse through
0:48.3	the whole text and a couple things we'll highlight this week and this is what Mark highlights here are two
0:54.0	stories that deal with the Sabbath and Jesus. Mark in his gospel he takes these
0:59.6	two instances where the Sabbath come up and focuses them in one section in his
1:04.8	gospel. Like he doesn't really talk about the Sabbath after this for many many
1:08.2	chapters. Like he just doesn't really pay a lot of attention to it in particular. So
1:11.8	these two stories are where conflict
1:13.6	about the Sabbath is meant to teach us some really important things about
1:16.2	God's word and some particulars about the identity of Jesus. That's big in Mark
1:20.3	right, who Jesus is. I hope we've picked up on that. That's a big. and
1:24.0	also some major heart issues that we can apply to our lives today in our following of Jesus.
