Summary

In the first session of PMQ's completely Covid restriction free, Keir Starmer proved that the Prime Minster wouldn't commit to definitely getting rid of the NHS waiting list within three years or the risk of people having to sell their homes to pay for care. But Boris Johnson seemed pretty bullet proof with not a whiff of tory rebellion even though some of his new policies go against his members more conservative principles.

Katy Balls talks to James Forsyth and Isabel Hardman about today's session.

there are many briefings about the unease over his social care plan. What do we get instead?

0:55.2

I mean, firstly, I should say that it was the first PMQ's back without COVID restrictions

0:59.6

in the House of Commons, which made a big difference as well. So there was, there was an

atmosphere there. And had there been a lot of fallout from this social care reform proposal,

1:09.3

then it would have been quite a thick atmosphere,

1:11.4

whereas actually it was a reasonably upbeat atmosphere, quite a tribal atmosphere, I'd say,

1:15.4

from the Conservative benches. You had them cheering on Boris Johnson as he was answering

1:21.5

Kirstama's questions. You had them at the end, shouting more once Kirstama had finished his

1:27.0

exchanges with Boris Johnson.

1:29.2

And they were in largely a supportive mood of the Prime Minister,

1:33.4

which I think is still a surprise, even given, as you both discussed on yesterday's podcast,

1:38.7

given the supportive or not critical tone of the Commons yesterday,

1:43.6

it was still surprising, I think,
