Champions League football is slipping further and further away from Chelsea

after a damaging 3-0 defeat at Brighton.

They've now lost five league games in a row without scoring for the first time in 14 years. So how much

worse can Chelsea get this season? In with us today, we have our Athletic Chelsea reporter, Liam Toomey,

and for the first time on the Athletic FC podcast, we've got former Premier League striker,

Dean Ashton as well. Well, let's get into this because Tuesday's result at Brighton makes

for some pretty grim reading, if you are a Chelsea fan, drop to 7th and now seven points

off Liverpool in 5th, with Brighton over taking them. First time they've lost five league games in a row in over

32 years. Five league defeats in a row without scoring for the first time, listen to this,

since 1912. Dean, big stats there, damaging stats there. It's not a good time for Chelsea at the moment,

is it? No, it's an awful time for Chelsea,

because with the squad that they've got, the money that they've spent, the expectation that's

always at that football club, you know, at the moment they're sort of staring down the barrel

of having absolutely nothing to show at the end of this season, which when you look at the

quality of

player that they have got, all of those players will be thinking about their futures. They just

will. That's how players think we are inherently selfish and hungry. Some of them very

publicly thinking of their features. Yes, yeah, very much so. And we're ambitious, most of us.

And so it would be not a good look for the club and it would be worrying then about the summer

and the transfers in and out for sure. It's the goalless streak that I'm looking at, you know,
