| 0:34.0 | Genesis is a fantastic book but so is Exodus. |
| 0:38.0 | Today we're going to focus on one verse that is intellectually and |
| 0:42.0 | theologically deep but also ignore one verse that is intellectually and |
| 0:42.7 | theologically deep, but also enormously practical and helpful |
| 0:46.8 | in our day-to-day life. |
| 0:48.3 | I just want to read the verse and then put it in context |
| 0:51.3 | and then apply it to our lives. Okay? So here's the verse and by the way this is |
| 0:56.3 | Genesis chapter 50 verse 20 Joseph is talking to his brothers. He says you you intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. |
| 1:06.8 | He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people. |
| 1:12.4 | That's a remarkable verse. It's got a lot to teach us, but in order to see what it has to say to us, we've got to briefly put it in context. Joseph's brothers hated him because he was his father's favorite and I'm sure it's the favorite he got |
| 1:26.3 | extra attention and privileges so for whatever reason they sold him into slavery. |
| 1:31.6 | Those slave traders eventually dumped Joseph in Egypt |
| 1:34.8 | where he starts to rise up through the Egyptian system. That's when Potipher's wife |
| 1:39.4 | lies and says that Joseph was trying to seduce her when the truth was very very different |
| 1:45.2 | but because she lied about him Joseph gets sent to an Egyptian prison which I |
| 1:51.2 | have to think was an incredibly horrifying experience. |
