"And now, in 2 Samuel 7, God is making a promise to David that sounds a lot like His promise to Abraham ... But then He goes a step further" The Bible is a book of God's promises. It's a book containing every genre: supernatural conflict between God and the devil; romance between Him and the church; history behind God's promises; and mystery of how He'll resolve all the issues, which we're still waiting for Him to reveal. Even though we know what happens in the end, we don't know how. The Bible is full of stories, but, whatever the genre, God's promises remain constant. And they guide the plot of each narrative. 0:11.0	And I'm Patrick Miller. Right now we're working through the story of David's life in first and second Samuel

0:24.0	in the more important chapters in the entire Bible.
0:23.0	And I know in one sense that sounds silly because
0:26.0	all the Bible is inspired by God
0:28.0	and is good for teaching and defeat her faith
0:31.0	and all that's true.
0:32.0	And yet you can't escape from the reality that some
0:36.1	chapters are more significant and second Samuel 7 is significant because it helps us fit the whole story of the Bible together.
0:46.0	What we might call the big God story from the first chapter of the Bible in Genesis 1
0:51.3	to the last chapter in Revelation 22, 2nd Samuel 7 is one of those key
0:57.6	chapters that help us fit the story together and it helps us understand who Jesus is and why he came. So let's start in
1:08.2	2nd Samuel 7 and then we'll back out and look at the big picture. David decides that now there's peace in the land.
1:16.1	He wants to build the Lord a house or a temple. And when he tells the Prophet Nathan about it, Nathan's like, yeah, go for it, great idea.
1:25.0	But that night, God appears to Nathan and says, okay, you got that one wrong.
1:30.0	David isn't going to build me a house, I'm going to build him a house.
1:35.0	Now there's a play on words occurring in this chapter,
1:38.0	because the word house appears, I think it's 15 times in the chapter if I remember right,
1:42.0	and sometimes it refers to a a
1:44.5	building you know like a temple and sometimes it refers to a dynasty so
