Summary

(Some language ❤️)

Listener question via IG DMs-

"I listened to your podcast this morning (as I always do) and I can't find it... the love that is supposed to be there and wash over me.  All I feel is sadness, to the point where my heart aches all day and I want to curl up on my bed and just disappear.  I could just give up but there is a strand of something that keeps me here.  I keep writing, I keep listening.  How do you do it? Be sad and still feel love?"

My written response-

"I asked a similar question to Krishna Das while on retreat.  I was like, Love is here, BUT, so is my shit lol.
He said, "it's not your shit."

It's not your sadness.
It's just sadness,
rolling through awareness.
Rolling through Love.
Hold fast to Love.
This is the work.
It's healing everything.
Thank you for journeying with me."

They replied-

"Oh man!!! That really resonates with me Nikki."

In this episode I shared a few of my favorite permission slips (that I've shared in previous shows), like my 'greatest hits', lol... the practices I return to again and again when sadness comes to visit.

Today's Quotes:

In English we say, "I  am sad", but in Spanish it translates as, "I have sadness", and in the Tibetan language it translates as, "sadness is here".  Can you feel the difference?"

keep writing, I keep listening. How do you do it? Be sad and still feel low. I

responded. I asked a similar question to Krishna Das on my recent retreat in

1:13.4

Maui. I was like, love is here but so was my shit and he said, it's not your

1:21.3

shit. Like for real. Like that's how he looked dead at me and it cut right

through. That's it. It cut right through it. And I knew that but I could fill it

1:36.6

in that moment. And so back to my response, it's not your sadness. It's just

sadness. Rolling through your awareness. Rolling through love. Hold fast to

resonated with you too. Actually, I have several teachers when I was on retreat

that same question because most of them have been practicing this love for

decades, some 30 years. And each gave me a very similar response. The more you

stay aware of this love, the more you begin to identify as that. Instead of the

character and its storyline and its problems, we begin to watch that character
