Summary
This episode is one we don’t want to think about - but we must. The average age of first exposure to pornography is between age 8 and 11. Porn is everywhere. As a parent, it can feel super intimidating and scary to think about these discussions. How do we talk to our kids? What language do I use? When is the right time? How can I protect them? How can I help through this struggle?
Greta Eskridge is the author of How to Talk to Your Kids About Porn and she has a personal story of how porn almost ruined her family. You will love her honesty about her own story, her passion to help other families and the practical ways you can begin to protect your kids.
My favorite part is when she shares about our reaction as parents. We want our kids to come to us whenever they are in trouble. We want to be a safe place so a calm and steady response is required. It is natural to react in anger and fear - but don’t forget it’s not too late. She encourages parents to circle back and remind your child that they are loved and you are there to help. She also encourages us as Christians parents on how to give them a “why” that ties this issue to their faith and God’s best plan for their life.
Don’t miss this one!

| 1:17.9 | Hey friends, welcome back to Pardon the Mess. I'm your host, Courtney Defeo, and I have a question for y'all. |
| 1:23.5 | Have you ever heard your kids share their testimony? I haven't. I mean, it's funny to me. I was looking at a picture today. Someone sent me of Larson sharing her testimony at an eighth grade retreat. They asked a few juniors to come, and I was like, I've never heard her testimony, which I think is normal. You know, you open up and vulnerably share about how God's worked in your life, maybe at a camp or, you know, in front of your friends, but not often at the dinner table. And so I was thinking about that today. Like, how could I give her a safe space to say, |
| 1:44.9 | like, hey, and I asked the lady that was listening, I was like, was her testimony? My mom is crazy, but God is good? Is that, was that what she shared? And she said, no, she's talking about her dad's cancer journey. So, I don't know, just something to ponder about how do we make our dinner time conversations and tables safe enough |
| 2:01.8 | to be like, hey, where have you really felt God speak to you and work? How did you know God was |
| 2:06.3 | real? Maybe something like that. So putting that out there. All right, we have a phenomenal guest. |
| 2:11.7 | I love when I have another podcaster on because there's like zero edits. This girl has done this. |
