Hello everyone, welcome to Follow Him Favorites. If you've been following Follow Him Favorites

this year, you know that John, by the way, and I are taking a single question from each

0:14.4

week's lesson and providing some insight. John, this week's lesson is on the first half

0:19.9

of Jeremiah, and there's a term in the first half of Jeremiah called backsliding, and the Lord

0:26.8

keeps using it over and over where he says backsliding Israel. He does it in Jeremiah chapter 3,

0:33.9

backsliding Israel, backsliding Israel, and as we were discussing that with Dr. John Hilton on our

0:39.8

full podcast, he told us that backsliding is when we return to our sins, we for repent, we for

0:46.1

sake them, and then we go back. So John, the question this week is how do I keep from backsliding?

0:53.0

How do I keep from going back to my sins? What would you say to someone who wants to stay away

0:58.2

from their former sins, but they are drawn to them? What do you do? That's a good question because

I think all of us have episodes of backsliding. We know better, and I'm so grateful we have the

1:09.5

sacrament every week that Lord gives us so many chances to start again, doesn't He? And so the very

1:17.4

fact that you would even ask the question, how can I stop backsliding is evidence that you're trying

1:23.1

to do better, which is so great. So for me, I stop backsliding by wearing Velcro jacket.

1:30.8

I don't slide anywhere, but I hope that anyone asking that kind of a question will recognize

1:37.0

that just being willing to ask that question shows that you're spiritually sensitive in a

1:41.9

way, and you're moving forward if you're worried about backsliding. If they're really serious things,

1:47.7

you go and you talk to your bishop and he'll help you to see the progress that you're making.

1:54.1

Hank, it's kind of like the stock market or something. It goes up, but it goes down, but it goes

1:59.3

up again. It's trending up. That's exactly it. You're trending upward. There are going to be mistakes

2:05.9

that you make, and there's going to be things that you maybe wish you hadn't done. But when you're

2:11.3

overall trend or slope is upward, I think that's what the Lord's asking because he knows that we're
