Summary

Nathan and Stephen are back with a rapid-fire edition of BFF. Among the topics: • Should fans be worried that the Richard Young pursuit could leave OSU in a 2020-like running back situation? • Are we making too much of positional fit with offensive linemen like Luke Montgomery? • Where will Ryan Montgomery be ranked when the first 2025 rankings come out? • Which top 2023 linebacker from the south is OSU more likely to eventually sign? Thoughts on those issues and more on this recruiting-only episode. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Over the last couple of weeks, I've sent out a couple of call outs for questions. We used some of them last week.

0:54.0

We had several good ones left over and we got a couple more this week. So I wanted to get through those and kind of use that in this little bridge area between signing day and what Ohio State wrapped up for 2022.

1:07.0

And then what we're they are doing as far as they get into 2023 and really even beyond that, we have some questions about prospects all the way into 2025 that people want to know about.

1:17.0

Let's get right into it. I wanted to start right off the top Stephen with this question about Richard Young because last week we talked we got a question.

1:26.0

Basically asking who's the next big get out of the South, the true South for Ohio State potentially and this was the name that you dropped and we got a question from the 567. Hey, Buckeye talk.

1:38.0

I hope this isn't too late, but I have a recruiting question. To be honest, the 2020 running back recruitment process still haunts me.

1:44.0

If Ohio State misses on Richard Young, who are some other running back prospects, Ohio State could target before you answer that question though.

1:51.0

I wanted to make sure people understand we obviously we touched on young and how important he was people who remember 2020 Ohio State went after multiple big time running backs and didn't get any of them.

2:06.0

And that's how mine Williams ended up being in the program. Mine Williams has been a productive running back for this team. And if they had landed somebody quote unquote better than mine Williams more higher ranked higher ranked in that recruiting cycle.

2:19.0

Trivia and Henderson might not be here. So it's there's there's also a chicken before the questions you can talk about with 2020.

2:25.0

But how far ahead of the other running back prospects that Ohio State is targeting is Richard Young, how good is he, what are the comparisons you would put on him as far as the football player he is.

2:41.0

I personally think he's pretty far ahead of everybody else in his class because I where things stand, he is the only one where like regardless of where he goes unless he goes to Georgia just because they've got like a gaggle of running backs there. So where it's just like a, you know, a conveyor belt.

3:00.0

He's the only one in this class where it's like he shows up on your campus and he's your starting running back and we're not having a conversation about anybody else.

3:08.0

And there's nobody else you can say that about that's why he's such a big deal seeing him in person when he came to Columbus and got a one on one workout with Tony offered last year.

3:17.0

This is a big kid. He's listed at 511 200 if you like saw him in person. He looks like it's 511 because running backs are short.

3:24.0

But he looks like he's 230 pounds man. He carries it really well. He's quick. He's agile. He's got speed. He's got everything you would need in a running back.

3:33.0

And so that's why when I say he is now priority number one target number one number one on their board. However, you want to put it that that's why it's because he does have the Travion Henderson level impact but how he can, you know,

3:46.0

what he can do the moment he steps on campus. It doesn't mean necessarily that it's all or nothing situation where like if you don't get richer young, then you just failed in this running back recruiting to your point with the 2020.

3:58.0

I understand why people are like that among the running backs they missed on in 2020 chip trade.
