Northwest is a jewel. Camping and hiking can be magical here, but a lot of work goes into keeping trails

safe and clear. Work that may not get done this year because conservation nonprofits say

federal cuts are eating into their budget. In a minute, Oregon Public Broadcasting's Eric

Newman will bring us up to date. But first, let's get you caught up. The organization that coordinates

homelessness response in Seattle and King County is worried about Doge. The King County Regional

Homelessness Authority says more than 10% of its budget comes from the federal government.

If it's cut, more than 2,300 people in

transitional housing and safe haven programs would be facing homelessness. The agency's leader

will present to the Seattle City Council this afternoon at 2, streaming live on the Seattle Channel.

Trump administration has already stalled $60 million in HUD funding and fired hundreds of workers.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments today in a case involving eight Nahomish regional firefighters who were put on unpaid leave after refusing to get COVID-19 vaccines.

They had all applied for religious exemptions and later sued in federal court.

A judge ruled against the firefighters last year, but they appealed to the Ninth Circuit.

They're suing for back pay and other benefits.
