It's meant to come at us not like an instruction manual, but like life itself, right?

So life doesn't come neatly packaged. It comes one thing after another, one day, you know, you think one minute.

You think about money, then you have to think about your kids, then you're thinking about money again.

Then you have to think about friends or family. So it comes at us a little bit chaotically. And I wonder if the Bible is trying to reflect that.

I mean, you're talking billions of human beings too. So many different perspectives, many different

places. So I just wonder if the whole thing is meant to engage the human experience in a hundred different ways, you know, from a hundred different places. So I just wonder if the whole thing is meant to engage the human experience

Greg Gilbert serves as senior pastor at Third Avenue Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky,

and as the author of numerous books, many of them with Crossway. He also wrote all of the

notes for the one-story Bible from Crossway. Greg, thanks so much for joining me again on the

Crossway podcast. Yeah, good to see you again, Matt. So you've been a pastor for many years. How many

years has it been at this point? Many years. A senior pastor for 15 and a half,

and then some years as an elder of two different churches prior to that. So all told, maybe

18, 19 years or something like that. So I would imagine over that nearly two decades, you have

spent time, obviously reading the Bible with

other Christians, leading Bible studies, and just teaching Christians how to read the Bible,

probably over countless hours, hundreds of hours spent in the word with other believers.

In your experience then doing that, what are some of the most common things that people

tend to struggle with when it comes to understanding scripture? Yeah. Well, so, I mean, the main

thing is just that the book is enormous, right? It's 66 books. I mean, all you have to do is

look at it to see. This is not the normal size book that people read these days.

So we like much shorter things.
