It's just alcohol. Everybody drinks.

You may have already heard this statement from your teen.

I'm Tammy Silverman with Indiana Youth Institute. Alcohol is the substance most commonly abused by teens.

Survey data shows that two in 10 Indiana high school students reported drinking in the past month.

And more than half of whose your teens say it would be easy to get alcohol.

How do you talk with your teen about alcohol use, especially if they

see peers or adults drinking? First, understand that your child may point out contradictions in our

society's views on alcohol. It's okay to acknowledge those facts. Talk with your teen about the

many risks of alcohol use. During your conversation, you can both validate their views and uphold

your family values. You are the first line of defense against alcohol abuse,

so don't be afraid to talk to your team.

What you say has a big influence on their decision to drink or not.
