| 0:11.1 | Now, here are your hosts, Michael Bumpus and Stacey Ross. |
| 0:16.4 | And we'll be Networks, Adnan Burke, joining us now in the Emerald Cancassino Sportsbook Hotline. |
| 0:21.0 | Adnan, how's it going? |
| 0:22.1 | Stacy, Michael, always a pleasure. Good to catch up with you guys. How you guys doing? |
| 0:25.2 | We're okay. We're okay. Earlier in the season, when the offense was looking pretty cold, it was easy to go, well, it's early. |
| 0:32.0 | What are you going to do? It's early. There's really nothing to take from this. Don't even look at the standings. Don't look at stats. Don't look at anything. And we're in that weird gray area of, that's technically a quarter the way into the season, getting a little warmer outside. There's still so much time left, though. So I'll just ask for another temperature check. Seeing what we have from the Mariners and kind of a lack of consistent offense, particularly from Cal Raleigh so far. |
| 1:12.9 | How are you feeling about this team? Yeah, it's a totally fair point about the weather. Our friend Harold Reynolds, of course, Mariners great, would often say that to me when we were doing it only tonight. So, well, it's early, it's early weeks, when the weather warms up, the basketball come around. But I'm with you. I mean, we're now at the quarter pole mark of the season, which is crazy to think about already 40 games in 120 to go. |
| 1:11.1 | So I think at this point games in 120 to go. |
| 1:13.1 | So I think at this point you could start to have a temperature check, and Buck Showalter, the fourth-time manager of the year, you used to always tell me when he would examine the season. He'd look at it in thirds. The one third is Memorial Day, but after that it's a trade deadline and it's July, then of course, the end of the season. |
| 1:27.3 | So after the first third of the year, I think you kind of got what you got. |
| 1:30.4 | So I think we're of got what you got. |
| 1:30.4 | So I think we're getting to that point stage. We're not quite there yet, but May 11, so a couple more weeks, we're there. So I think at that point, it's fair to look at your team. You can no longer say, well, it's early in the season form. But at that point, if Cal Raleigh is still hitting the buck 75, you go, because this is a concern. |
| 1:45.2 | So I think with Raleigh is still hitting a buck 75, you go, because this is a |
| 1:44.6 | concern. |
| 3:24.8 | So I think with Raleigh specifically, we had a remarkable season last year. We all know that 60 home runs for a catcher is unheard of and historic. But it does take a lot out of you, the wear and tear and playing for Team USA, World Baseball Classic, et cetera. so yeah yeah, we know Julio's always been a notoriously slow starter, and I just thought with Raleigh, maybe he would different production, of course. I wasn't expecting 50 runs again. What I thought would be as usual, 38 to 40, but really shnold going to the bat, no question about it. And they're expecting a lot of those guys. between Nailerer, Jayrod, and Raleigh, that really is the crux of that offense. Unless they can be assemblance of what they were a season ago, it's going to be a real challenge for Seattle, no doubt. Speaking of Cal, I think you can do a good job of looking at the stats and trying to figure out, okay, what's going on with him, the swing doctors are looking at the swing. But something that I've thought about, Stacey and I've had a conversation about this, is just what his off-season was like and all of a sudden being on five or six commercials, being asked to go to these events. And how that can affect one's mental, what do you think, what would you assume Cal is like mentally right now, coming out the off season that he had and now not performing out the level that we expected him to? Well, Michael, I've been around an athlete for a long time and I can tell you, you know, generally the better the athlete, the bigger the ego, which makes sense I think in life. The better the lawyer you're on, the better the doc you are. you get treated a certain way and you're a little more e egotistical, rightly or wrong, that's kind of the way it works. I can tell you when it comes to Cal Raleigh, though, for a guy who is run or up for the MVP, by all account he's one of the most unassuming stars in the sport. Like he truly is a lunch bucket kind of guy really close to his parents. They travel them sometimes a a road trips. Like you see, he's very, |
| 3:29.6 | like, you know, Cal Raleigh is truly what you'd expect in terms of being an authentic guy, |
| 3:35.0 | lunch bucket, et cetera, big dump or nicknames, so on and so forth. So I don't think Cal Rale is the kind of guy who lets success impact him. And I think if anything, if he's being stretched too thin, |
| 3:42.9 | it's not that he's busy in terms of endorsements or, you know, nightclubs. I think it's just a matter of giving back the community. |
| 3:48.1 | Everything I've ever read or heard about Cal Rale is he's very involved with charitable efforts |
