The Rangers have a new head coached on. You kind of touched on this yesterday when it was rumored. Now it's official.

Peter Laviolette is the Ranger head coach. Give me your take on this. Is it a good hire for them?

I think it's the right hire because of where you are. You're a win now team. He took over a Carolina team, won a cup.

In the second year there went to the Stanley Cup Final in Philadelphia in the second year, went to Nashville and went to a Stanley Cup Final's third year there.

Didn't get much going in Washington, but I don't think it was his fault that a lot of injuries, especially this year with Carlson and Baxter missing most of the year.

I think he's a disciplinarian, but he's not that hard where the players aren't going to get along with him.

He does have a shelf life, as I mentioned yesterday. It seems like three, four years, and it probably runs out of steam.

But that's how most coaches go in this league. Guys don't last the real long time.

Scottie Bowman, the greatest coach I think in history of sports, coached five different teams. It's just the way that it is in the NHL.

So I wouldn't read too much in this being his sixth hire as a coach, but he knows the division because he's coached in Carolina, Washington, the Islanders, Philadelphia, and he's a winner and he's got a cup.

And I really don't think Chris Dory could have gone anywhere where there was going to be any kind of mystery and what he was going to get.

You needed to get somebody who's got a history of getting his teams deep in the playoffs. Peter has that.

He's got an intimate knowledge of the roster. He was in the division last year with Washington, and I think it's the perfect hire.
