Approximately 3.30 this afternoon are plainclothes officers and agents that consistently patrol the outer perimeter of the White House complex.

Identified a suspicious individual that appeared to have a firearm.

They called in support from our marked uniform Secret Service police to make contact with that individual. Upon making contact,

that individual fled briefly on foot, withdrew a firearm and fired in the direction of our

agents and officers. They returned fire and engaged. That individual was hit. He's

since been transported to the hospital. I have no comments on his condition.

I can tell you that at least one, we believe only one bystander was hit by the suspect,

that individual to juvenile, did not sustain any life-threatening injuries, but he's also receiving

treatment at the hospital.

So you've got another man shot by the Secret Service near the White House area in Washington, D.C.

It was near the Washington Monument in the National Mall, just blocks away from the White House.

The officer spotted a person, and he he ran and so they got him.

There was no confirmed indication that that suspect was targeting the White House or officials.

However, the vice president's motorcade had recently passed through the area.

Authorities didn't say that there was evidence that the vice president was targeted.

They were just taking precautions. So my question is, is this now a weekly thing that we're

dealing with? Like this news came and it was like, oh, that, okay, yeah. So my question on this is,

have they ramped up their efforts to identify people with weapons?
