We are under a state of emergency.

Nine people, eight in New York City, one in New Jersey, among the dead a two-year-old child, all confirmed dead. Two people still

missing as the remnants of Ida slam the New York City area. You are listening to water pouring down

the stairs of a subway station.

Dozens had to be rescued from subway cars as the system drowned in the waters.

On the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the New Jersey Turnpike,

Gobi Acevedo from NBC4 called in during the downpour to warn other drivers.

To get to higher ground, and if you're in position in the highway or in the freeway, just stay put until this passes by.

It's the best advice that I can give you. Right now, exercise caution,

especially if you are on the road, Natalie. This is a very tough scenario here. I've seen people

being very scared inside low cars because they don't know how much rain is going to keep falling here.

And if this is going to become a more complicated scenario, that is the situation

right now at here on the New Jersey Turnpike.

That was NBC correspondent Gobi Acevedo calling in last night on NBC 4. Cars were just left on

the road of the New Jersey Turnpike, and you're being asked not to travel

that even at this hour. And a huge, powerful tornado hit Mullica Hill in South Jersey,

destroying a home.

I've been cried in like 20 years, and once I've seen her house totally destroyed destroyed and I started running over there.
