Summary
The greatest scientific minds of the 18th and 19th centuries were devoutly religious. Copernicus, Galileo, Newton, Kepler, Descartes, Pascal and many others considered science an effort to read the thoughts of God. Darwin produced a theory of evolution based on random variation and dismissed God from the process. This spawned materialism and naturalism and their modern expression, “scientism:” The priesthood of scientism declares that science and faith are in conflict and science is the only reliable source of truth.
