I'm John Bachelor. This is Hotel Mars. David Livingston, my colleague and co-host and friend of the space show, and we're very pleased to be speaking with Eric Berger of

ours Technica which I recommend is a fun site because it's got all the geeky stuff I

don't know about plus a lot of new things I could buy if I had time.

But Eric's got something that I do have time for and I look forward to speaking at length to him,

with him about it. A new book, reentry SpaceX Elon Musk and the reusable

rockets that launched a second space age. And meanwhile I mentioned Eric and I spoke of his first book, Liftoff, Elon Musk in the desperate early days

that launched SpaceX.

That desperate part can describe the whole century for Musk because he's always in a hurry. However, we come to where we are now with

competing companies, rival companies, sister companies. There are a lot of metaphors here.

I begin with Blue Origin. Blue Origin has a New Glen

rocket and it was scheduled to launch and now has been held back or canceled or

postponed by NASA because Eric is there an explanation for the

hold up at Blue Origin. Yeah so Blue Origin has been working for a decade to develop its first orbital rocket

new glacial.

It's a very large, it's an impressive rocket.

I've seen it in person.

I mean, it will be very cool when it flies.

But they were trying to meet in the mid-October

launch window for NASA has a couple of smaller spacecraft called Escapade,

a mission that wants to send to Mars. It had to launch by about October 15th.

The reality is that New Glen is not now going to be ready by that deadline.

And so NASA said that they had to pull their payload off the first launch of New Glen.
