| 0:00.0 | Today on the Ask a Cycling Coach podcast, we're going to cover some hot takes on lots of topics including intermittent fasting, inflammation, off seasons, and more. |
| 0:09.0 | So let's get into it. |
| 0:11.0 | Hi guys, first hot take. |
| 0:14.0 | First hot take, let's do it. |
| 0:15.0 | Freshness is better than fitness. Chad, what do you think? |
| 0:20.0 | It kind of implies that you can have one without the other, and so let's be clear you can't, because freshness doesn't matter if you're not unmasking wealth of fitness. |
| 0:29.0 | And fitness doesn't matter if it doesn't, if you don't have fitness, it doesn't matter how fresh you are, you're not going to be able to do anything. |
| 0:37.0 | So trying to rank one of these over the other kind of breaks my brain. |
| 0:41.0 | It's really hard for me to say that one is more important than the other. |

| 0:47.0 | Yeah, I was just going to say I'm not right for a year. |

| 0:51.0 | Yeah, the worst I've been in like a hole. |
| 0:56.0 | I was still probably 150 watt FTP watts higher. |
| 0:59.0 | Of course, chronic fatigue syndrome and something like that. |
| 1:02.0 | But this is a bit good point. |
| 1:04.0 | Being slightly tired, slightly less fresh, but being fitter, going into a race is perfectly fine. |
| 1:09.0 | Because I think a lot of people get scared that, hey, I'm not fresh enough coming in this and I'm not going to be able to perform because they've been putting so much work in for a long time. |
| 1:17.0 | Of course, the best is if you can balance both. |
| 1:21.0 | And sometimes we've seen that with athletes who get injured or have something work come up and you actually can't train for two weeks and you come out with the you're the fastest you've ever been. |
| 1:30.0 | But you know, fitness, fitness is the cake and freshness is the icing. |
| 1:36.0 | Freshness is like the sharpness of the blade. |
