Hello and welcome to Maine Justice. It is Tuesday morning, November 11. I'm Andrew Wiseman,

0:18.6

and I am here with Mary McCord. Hello, Mary. Good morning and happy

0:23.7

Veterans Day, Andrew. You know, I was thinking about that today. Well, I mean, I'm so proud of all the

0:29.7

veterans that have been standing up and speaking out about things, including some of the things that

0:34.5

we're going to talk about today, not only the deployments of the National Guard domestically, but also the strikes on international waters.

0:43.9

And frankly, just in support of democratic processes and elections, we've seen a number of veterans groups and veterans families really being involved civically.

1:38.8

we're going to talk about. So what are we going to talk about? Yes. So we are going to start out with two big, big deal cases that are brewing on emergency

1:48.8

motions in the Supreme Court right now. The cases involving the attempted cutoff of SNAP

1:54.4

benefits, as we talked about last week, and we had a flurry of activity over the weekend,

1:59.3

including briefs filed both last night and this

2:01.7

morning. You know, America likes to say they're the richest country in the world, and that one in eight

2:07.9

people are eligible for SNAP benefits. Leave aside partisanship, leave aside the law here,

2:17.0

leave aside the cruelty of not giving these funds out.

2:22.1

What does it say that we're not prioritizing hunger as an issue? It's a remarkable thing.
