0:27.2	You say that's crazy what kind of story is that?
0:29.8	Well it's a story we're actually going to encounter at mass this Sunday. It's a part of the the scripture readings. The first reading is from Genesis chapter 22. A famous story of the Old Testament, the story of Abraham and Isaac. You may be familiar with it. God calls
0:46.5	Abraham to take his son to go up Mount Mariah and offer him up as a sacrifice.
0:52.5	What is that all about?
0:54.1	What kind of God does that?
0:56.0	He's telling someone to kill his own son?
0:59.2	Now, you may know the end of the story,
1:01.0	and if you don't, spoiler alert alert I'm going to tell you now and
1:03.8	you're going to hear it again on Sunday anyway so God intervenes in the end as
1:07.3	Abraham's about to slay his son God sends an angel prevents him from doing it
1:11.9	and says Abraham you have proven your great faith, basically.
1:16.0	You've been willing to give up everything. Even your own son, you've not withheld your own son to God.
1:21.5	This is a tremendous test,
1:24.2	and you have shown your tremendous faith
1:26.8	and trust in the Father.
1:29.2	And there's a lot there, and that's beautiful,
1:30.6	but still a God that asks a man to sacrifice his son? That's crazy. Well is that just like the
1:38.6	old testament you know? Maybe this is just weird things are in the old testament.
1:42.0	It doesn't have to make sense.
1:43.2	No, no, no, you need to know that the God of the Old Testament is the same God of the New Testament.
