The narrative of the tween celeb who gets their start at the mouse house only to then pivot or attempt to pivot, sometimes over and over and over, toward an adult singing career, feels

like one of the tritest and truest and truest maxims in contemporary pop. It's a story that of course dates all the way back to the 90s

when Mickey Mouse Club vets, Brittany, Christina, and Justin parlayed their child idol fame into

rebirths as legit music supernovas. And it continues afoot through more contemporary pop acts

like Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato,

Selena Gomez, the Jonas Brothers, and more recently Olivia Rodriguez.

But I would argue that despite not being nearly the most successful of this cohort,
