Summary

#294: If you have PCOS and feel like you’re “doing everything right” but still struggling with hunger, cravings, or weight…this episode is for you. Women are often taught that their bodies are the problem, so when something doesn’t work, we blame ourselves. But what if the issue isn’t willpower… it’s the formulation? In this episode, we break down what food labels don’t tell you, and why PCOS women are especially vulnerable to certain “health” foods and marketing claims. We cover: - How foods are engineered for the bliss point and why PCOS appetite signaling makes this harder - The truth about “natural flavors” and how labels can sound clean without being supportive - Why “sugar-free” doesn’t always mean blood-sugar-friendly for insulin-resistant bodies - How low-fat foods can worsen hunger and blood sugar swings (plus a real coaching call example with a simple fix) This isn’t about restriction or cutting out everything you enjoy. It’s about understanding why your body responds the way it does, so you can stop blaming yourself and start making choices that actually support PCOS hormones and metabolism. the first test apparently you don't have to fast.

1:11.5

It's one hour long. So I had a full on breakfast. And then a couple hours later, I went to take the test.

1:17.6

By the way, there's a test that you do when you're pregnant to make sure that you don't have gestational diabetes.

1:22.2

Just to make it obvious. Yeah, because in the third trimester, things start happening.

1:26.3

Anemia, gestational diabetes, maybe preeclampsia. Like, just the risks are high. And the baby's like stealing all your nutrients. It's just. Yeah. Especially when you have PCS, too. A lot of those risks are a little bit higher because due to PCS complications. So the first test, I went and the lady at the office was like, why aren't you fasting? I'm like, they didn't tell me to fast. And then I called the doctor, and she's like, you don't have to fast. I said, okay, what is happening? And then I asked my friend, and she's like, yeah, I was fasting. And just like a lot of mixed things. Yeah, a lot of misinformation or a lot of conflicting information. So then I went, I took the test and I didn't pass. Barely, though. You barely didn't pass. Like the number was, let's say, 160. You were at like 162. I felt like I was slapped in the face. After all the hard work I put into things, like my health. I hadn't been eating any sugar. I don't have crazy cravings. I feel like I'm totally fine. I was just like really in shock. And then our baby shower happened. New years happened. I had a lot of distractions and I never like retook the test. And then I went to the doctor and she was like, you need to retake this test. Like we need to know if you have gestational diabetes and it could be dangerous for the baby. I'm like, okay, okay. So then the next day I took the test and I passed. With flying colors. But this time you actually fasted for the whole. I fasted for 12 hours. Yeah. And I was very intentional. I had a high protein, low carb dinner. I had salad with meat. That was it.

2:52.7

I didn't have not one thing for 12 hours before the test after I ate that dinner.

2:59.1

And I was just really careful about it. And as it turns out, like when you don't pass the

3:04.2

gestational diabetes test, it's not because you ate too much sugar. You have a

3:09.1

poor diet. Usually it's because your placenta is actually producing hormones that block

3:14.4

insulin. And this is normal and expected. And that's why they do the test because they want to see

3:19.8

how bad it is if you're struggling with this because it's dangerous for the baby, if it's
