When Payal Kadakia first appeared on How I Built This in June of 2020, the future of ClassPass, a subscription service for in-person exercise classes, seemed very uncertain. The pandemic had shuttered gyms and fitness studios across the world, and ClassPass was relying on virtual events and wellness offerings in order to stay afloat.

0:36.0	It's basically like Expedia or Kayak, but for fitness classes.
0:40.8	In January of 2020, ClassPass raised a round of financing at a $1 billion valuation.
0:47.6	And for Pao, it was an incredible validation of a business that had its ups and downs.
0:53.0	In its early days, ClassPass was a way you could sign up for all kinds of classes, photography,
0:58.2	cooking, singing, you name it.
1:00.6	But over time, it became a really powerful force in the fitness industry.
1:05.7	All seemed to be going well until, of course, March of 2020, when the pandemic all but shut
1:11.5	down fitness centers across the US and around the world.
1:15.8	When Pao was last on the show, she was dealing with layoffs and even uncertainty over whether
1:20.7	ClassPass would make it.
1:23.1	But late in 2021, ClassPass was acquired by a company called Mind Body for an undisclosed
