Hey there, I'm Dan Weisman, a radio reporter. A year ago I launched this show about the cost of health

care called an arm and a leg. We're about to start our third season and if you haven't heard

the show before, it's about people, not politics, and our goal is to be more entertaining

and empowering and occasionally useful than enraging and terrifying and depressing.

Because, look, the cavalry is not coming I mean as I make this season presidential

candidates are talking about big plans to change American health care but none of

that's happening anytime soon I mean let's say your dream candidate gets elected,

along with their dream Congress, and they pass your dream legislation, and they do it in the first

hundred days.

Let's leave aside the odds of all that happening.

That's like a year and a half from now.

And then tack on at least a couple more years

before anything takes effect.

I mean, 2023 would be insanely,

insanely soon. And that's a lot of go-fundme campaigns from now. And in a world

where your doctor could order some routine blood

test that ends up with you getting a bill for like 500 bucks? That's a long time to

wait for the cavalry. So this season we're going after stories about what's possible right now like what kind of

bills you can fight. We'll have a feature called Can they F can fucking do that? That's going to be fun.

And we'll start with the story of a mom who took on the state of Texas.

When she found out insurance companies didn't cover hearing aids for kids and they cost like

6,000 bucks, minimum. She teamed up with a few and they're They're in them.
