Summary

Do you make prayer excuses? Don’t lie. We all come up with creative ways to avoid doing what we know we should do—pray! In this week’s show, I share some ways to respond to ourselves when we are tempted to make up excuses for why we aren’t praying more. The excuses we cover: 1) I don’t have time. 2) I will do it later. 3) I get distracted. 4) My family is almost never all home at once. 5) I don’t know what to say. 6) I’m too tired. Do any of these sound familiar? Let’s resolve together to accept no excuses to remember the right answers to these excuses and revive our prayer lives this summer! Drop me a note and let me know how it’s going for you.

So thank you for being here. This week we're going to talk about prayer excuses. But before we get

to that, I have this little thing that I want to ask you about. It's been bothering me. And I don't know

1:01.1

if I want to call it a pet peeve or just an observation that's a little bit annoying. But why

1:07.3

do people talk about other people's weight? Okay, background to this topic. It's that I was

1:15.7

recently somewhere and I met somebody who I didn't know who kind of knew me from online or something,

1:23.3

you know, going back away. And she came up to me and said, are you Danielle Bean? And I said,

1:30.1

yes. And she said, oh, wow, have you always looked like this? And I said, yes. I mean, you know,

1:38.1

pretty much. Anyway, which was kind of an odd thing to say. And then she kind of like pulled me aside a little and was like,

1:45.4

no, really. I mean, didn't you, you used to be really, really heavy? I mean, what? I don't know.

1:57.1

And all I could think was, okay, she has me confused with somebody else. I didn't, I've never had any, you know, gigantic weight loss or anything. But also, even if I had, wouldn't that make me feel terrible? I mean, isn't that a stupid thing to say? So, I mean, I just kind of brushed it off. I mean, it did not seriously bother me, but it did leave me thinking,

2:18.9

why do people do that? And I don't know that people think about it enough. And it's always women to other

women. Now, okay, this, that was kind of an extreme example. But other times, other women have said to me,

2:32.9

like, you've lost weight. You've lost weight, or they've told me

2:36.6

you've lost a lot of weight. And at times when I haven't, or I haven't even been trying to,

2:44.2

and it's not an issue for me at that point. And it always feels really uncomfortable. It always

2:50.2

feels just a little weird. Like, why are you
