Summary

Henry Mickle & Bayley Richardson are self-described "Mates from the Land Down Under", cruising around the world in an old Beneteau. These two twenty-something friends made a pact, worked their asses off, saved their money, bought a boat and are living the dream — figuring it out as they go, but with knowledge and experience earned from working professionally offshore in Australia's oil industry. I spoke to them onboard FALKEN on anchor in Barbados about the wild highs and scary lows of their adventure so far in their mission to sail REVELRY home to Australia.

The show is also presented by Harborburn Cannon Company, creators of solid, marine-grade bronze, black-powder signal cannons — just like the ones from the age of sail but a bit smaller. If you own a boat, you need a cannon! To find out more, go to harborburn.com.

The Force Day was hanging on the little U-bolt up on the top of the mast by just a hair,

0:08.0

was just caught by the tension of metal on metal with no pin, no pin through it.

And as soon as that mask got lifted by the crane, the whole Force Day just slumped right down.

It was really close.

In 59 North News, it's been an extremely busy week.

We've been adding trips to the calendars.

We've been planning 2026.

I decided to race Spica in Gotland Rundt this year.

We're doing that.

So it always happens that when I get home or when Mia gets home from a long stint on the boat, there's always like a level of excitement and stuff that piles up because neither of us have been in the office together for a while. So it's been a really fun week here. A couple of things to talk about. We are solidifying the plan for the boat show in the fall. So that's an Apple sailboat show coming up in October this year. We are partnering with Brady and Alex from the Cruiser's Academy. Brady and Alex, of course, sail with us to Svalbard in 2018 on East Bjorn. And we're going to be doing some joint events with them at Boat Show. It's not on the website yet, but it will be very soon. So check back if you want to come to an event. I will say we're planning a sort of half-day educational-based

1:12.4

seamanship session with them, but instead of doing it, you know, in the past we've done these

1:17.9

have been relatively expensive and for a smaller group. We're keeping it cheap. It's going to be

1:22.8

less than a hundred bucks and you'll get a ticket to the boat show with that. We're trying to get

1:26.5

as many people as we can to give, to meet some of this educational information, which I think is important to get out to as many people as possible. So that's coming. There'll be kind of a get-together in the evening. All that stuff will be on the website at 59-north.com slash boat show in within a week

1:45.3

after you listen to this. If you listen to this when it comes out. We've also got some bunks

1:49.5

left this year in 2024, but not that many. So go to 59-north.com slash bunks. In particular,

1:55.5

you can still cross the Bay of Biscay on Falcon in the fall, and we added a sail training trip on East Bjorn

2:02.8

in Norway, also in the fall. Those and a few other bunks here and there are available on

2:07.5

that slash bunks website. And last but not least, we've had such a huge response to the Pacific

2:13.0

calendar next year that we're doing it again in 2026. So we're basically repeating the same loop

2:18.2

in the Pacific in 26 as we did in 2025. And those passages will be online and open for booking

2:24.3

very shortly. All right. That was a mouthful. I'm going to save my breath for the rest of this
