Coming to you from the San Francisco International Airport on Tuesday, April 19th, 2016.

I was saddened yesterday by the news of the passing of actress Doris Roberts,

who I had met only a week or so ago.

I was hanging out at the bar at the Arklight Theater in Hollywood one afternoon,

and a lady who I've smoked with a few times at film festivals and Doug Loves' movies tapings came up to me and said,

I'd like you to meet my friend Doris. And sure enough, sitting in a nearby booth was four-time

Emmy winner, maybe it was five, Doris Roberts. She had just seen,

Hello, My Name is Doris, starring Sally Field, and loved it. I told her that I loved

it too, and then she asked who directed it, and I said Michael Showalter, and she repeated Showalter a couple of times as if trying to commit it to

memory and then I said nice to meet you and got out of there because I didn't want to take up her

time I mean she didn't know who I was but I'm very glad that I did get to meet her taking comfort knowing that the

last movie that she saw, or maybe nearly the last movie she saw in a theater during the

last days of her life, was not only an enjoyable film, but also one featuring a character named Doris.

Anyway, I just thought that she deserved a mini.

She was so great on Everybody Loves Raymond as that meddling matriarch.

I always thought when I watched that show, why doesn't Raymond just move away from her?

Rest in peace, Doris.
