Helen Leoneon Diamond was a 48 year old from Tilden Township, Michigan.

She loved parties, but her number one job was always being a mother.

On the evening of June 28, 1981, she and her husband got into a short argument at a private gathering. He drove home while she decided to stay.

After midnight Helen left intending to walk to her son's house less than a mile away.

She was never seen again.

I'm at Denzel, and this is unfound. The As I get older, I've begun to realize how fortunate I was to have known my grandparents.

Granted, since I'm no youngster, they've been gone for a while now.

They all died between the years of 1985 and 1997.

But over the last 20 years, I've discovered that my experience was more the exception

than the rule. I'm not sure

majority of people get to know their pops and grams like I did. It helped that they

all lived to be at least 80 years old and they didn't live far away. What it means is I don't have to go into the

past to figure out who they were. In fact, because I actually did meet them and

talk to them, I can tap my memory and it's like they're still here in the present.

But in Helen Diamond's case, most of her grandchildren didn't get the chance I did.

What most of them have instead are secondhand stories

from their parents, aunts and uncles. In addition to news account after news account

since 1981, reminding these children of the woman they should have known, but didn't,

due to whatever happened on a dark road in Michigan on June 29th of that year.

What you'll hear today is one granddaughter's journey into the past to find out

what happened along the way finding out more about her grandmother, the woman she never
