But first the race for the presidency of the United States is entering its final phase.

Donald Trump has just announced his vice presidential running mate, Mike Pence,

formerly best known as the governor of Indiana.

Lucky Mr. Pence will spend much of the next few months trying to explain away the latest outrageous thing the Donald may have said.

And that's a problem that faces the whole Republican Party as it prepares

for next week's convention in Cleveland, Ohio. The BBC's North America editor John

Sopel's been following the whole campaign and reflects now on what to

expect from Donald Trump's grand coronation. There's a neat symmetry to the

Republican Convention being held in Cleveland. It's where the first Republican

television debate was held last August, and it's where 17 presidential hopefuls took

to the stage and where one particular wannabe decided the conventional rules of political discourse

weren't for him.
