I'm a journalist and language lover,

and I'm here to find out whether this distinctive Jewish language

in its proud Greek variety can be saved along with its precious history. I am David Saltyel, the president of the Jewish community of the one two thousand years back. You know, mainly there are Jews here before 500 years, but the most Jews in Saloniki came after the persecution from Spain, Isabella Ferdinando,

that throw all the Jews, not only Jews, but I think the Muslims also. So the Jews found the Jews

found a shelter here in Salonica and it was an Ottoman Empire.

So they were established here and they did this community which was very strong.

We had 70,000 people.

The Jews were the arithmetically the biggest community.
