Mary Magdalene's devotion to Jesus is highlighted in her actions. The removal of the stone from the tomb symbolizes divine intervention. Grief can cloud our vision and understanding of God's work. Recognition and understanding of God's actions can take time. Mary's encounter with Jesus transforms her grief into hope. Jesus calls us by name, making our relationship personal. Mary becomes the first to share the news of the resurrection. Our personal encounters with Jesus compel us to take action. We are called to share hope and truth with those around us. Hey friends, I'm Rachel Grohl and I'm your host for the Hearing Jesus podcast, where I help you to know God and to make him known. Have you ever woken up in the morning to a situation that just feels hopeless? I mean, we live in this fallen world and so I think many of us have had those moments. And it's not fun. In fact,

0:23.1

those are the days that you just don't even want to get out of bed because the entire situation

0:28.0

just feels like there's no hope. And if you've ever walked through grief or even just disappointment,

0:34.8

maybe a job loss or something like that, you know that feeling.

0:38.5

It's like a punch in the stomach and you don't even know what to do next.

0:42.9

You don't know what's going to happen next.

0:45.1

You know, sometimes it's things like everything that you counted on seems gone.

0:51.3

That's the exact moment that we're walking into in John chapter 20. Mary Magdalene finds herself

0:57.6

on what's basically the first Easter and it's in the morning and she is confused and she's grieving

1:04.9

and she feels hopeless. So I'm going to read, we're actually going to do the first half of John 20 today and the second half tomorrow.

1:12.7

So I'm going to read the first 10 verses or so and then we'll stop to talk about it.

1:18.5

Again, this is John chapter 20.

1:21.0

Now on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came early to the tomb while it was still dark and saw the stone already removed from the tomb.

1:30.0

So she ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus left and said to them,

1:35.1

they have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we do not know where they have put him. So Peter and the other

1:41.8

disciple left and they were going to the tomb. The two were running together,

1:45.9

and the other disciple ran ahead, faster than Peter, and came to the tomb first. And he stooped to look

1:52.3

in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, however he did not go in. So Simon Peter also came

1:58.2

following him, and he entered the tomb, and he looked at the linen wrappings lying there,

2:03.0

and the facecloth, which had been on his head, not lying with the linen wrappings, but folded up in a place by itself.

2:11.1

So the other disciple who had first come to the tomb also entered then, and he saw and believed,

2:19.3

for they did not yet understand the scripture that he must rise from the dead, so the disciples went away again to their own homes.
