Summary

This week, Jake and Bob explore how inner healing is rooted within the tradition of the Catholic Church. Drawing from the Catechism, they discuss the three expressions of prayer—vocal, meditative, and contemplative—and how each form is incorporated within the inner healing process. Far from being a psychological exercise, inner healing comes from a deeply relational encounter with Jesus and restores the whole person so we might live in deeper communion with Him.

Key Points:

  • Inner healing prayer is deeply rooted in the Church's tradition
  • The Catechism identifies three key expressions of prayer: vocal, meditation, and contemplative. These are all at the heart of the inner healing process
  • Healing comes from an encounter with Jesus and is not a result of a mere completion of steps
  • When we pray, we need to engage our hearts instead of simply repeating words
  • God is always present when we pray, even when we cannot hear His voice
  • Inner healing often requires us to patiently cooperate with God's timing. He knows more about the mysteries and vulnerabilities of our hearts than we do

All right, Bob. Let's get into it. So, Bob, you and I were recently at a bishop's retreat, and I hear the teaching, you know, that you offer, and sometimes I help with regularly.

0:34.7

And you were doing the teaching on the inner healing prayer, just kind of the steps

0:40.6

or the model, et cetera, and we were introducing that. And then you said something. And it, you know,

0:46.4

it was one of those times where I thought, I've heard this a hundred times this teaching, but I had,

it was like I had never heard a particular part of it before.

0:55.9

And then we connected and we were like, you know,

0:57.5

we should just do another episode like a refresh on the inner healing process and just

1:02.0

let new things that are coming up for us be expressed.

1:06.2

And so that's what we're going to do today is dive into the healing process.

1:10.1

So some of those kind of unique nuances, I know we'll get to here in a second,

1:13.6

but let's kind of reintroduce folks again to the healing process, healing,

1:20.8

what are we doing in these steps,

1:22.3

and then we'll get into some of those nuances.

1:23.6

So any kind of just general stuff that comes up for you as, you know, we're always

1:28.4

thinking about these things. Anything kind of nuanced? Yeah, that particular time at that

1:33.4

bishop's conference, it was just an inspiration of the Holy Spirit to start that way. And then

1:38.8

you said, well, we need to share this on the podcast. And so, yeah, I'm all for that. It's, you know, there's a danger when we

1:46.9

talk about, we've said this many times, we talk about a process, and we talk about a method

1:51.1

of reifying, you know, making, making the method the important thing, rather than the Holy Spirit,
