Hi, I'm Caroline Leaf and welcome to my podcast Cleaning Up the Mental Mess.

In 1997 two doctors embarked on a landmark study of over 17,000 individuals

and asked them about negative experiences in childhood and their current physical and mental health.

What they found was that when children are exposed to

toxic stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, this will have a dramatic impact

on their mind, brain and bodies. That study later became known as the Adverse Childhood

reality and impact of adverse childhood experiences on mental and physical health, research also shows that focusing just on the negative alone may actually slow down the process of healing.
