Hi, welcome back to Radio Headspace and to Wednesday, it's Dora.

So as you know, this week is all about first and how we deal with all the feelings that

come up around trying something new.

Yesterday we covered first dates and we can't talk about first dates and not talk about

first heartbreak.

Listen, the first time I had my heart broken I thought I was going to die.

Seriously, nothing can prepare you for such a visceral feeling and I'll never forget it

either.

As much as I wanted to forget it, over time I realized that the lessons and wisdom I've

gained from having my heart broken are unmatched.

I mean, I wouldn't have even discovered meditation and mindfulness if it wasn't for

the anxiety I was left with after my first break up.

And something I've learned is that when it comes to matters of the heart, time heals

all wounds.

Essentially, we are grieving.

There's the grief that comes from the loss of the relationship, but also that romanticized

future.

The plans we made, the moments that were shared, the identity we created with that other

person.

Maybe we grieve the time spent together and for some, the time wasted.

You may think that suppressing our emotions will make things feel better in the moment

and we might try to distract ourselves in some way.
