Summary
The room wasn’t meant to feel like home. It was just a cheap temporary rental while he waited for his new apartment to be ready after moving for work.
The old Victorian house had been divided into cramped rentals over the years, and his tiny third-floor room sat directly beneath an attic access panel hanging from the ceiling over the bed. He hated it immediately, though he couldn’t explain why.
For the first week, nothing happened. Then the storms rolled in.
Late at night, he began hearing footsteps crossing slowly through the attic overhead. At first, he convinced himself it was just an old house reacting to heavy weather. But the sounds kept getting worse—and eventually they continued even after the storms had passed.
And once he realized the footsteps seemed to stop directly above his bed… the room stopped feeling temporary altogether.
