Why are we so eager to send missionaries across the ocean when our own country is drowning in spiritual darkness?

Have we got it all wrong as American Christians ignoring our own backyard while trying to fix someone else's?

James, this is a really spicy topic. I mean, a dangerous conversation is what we're about to have. Who doesn't support missionaries? Every pastor supports missionaries. I mean, I read about missions in the Bible. That's the whole book of Acts. What made you pick this topic? I think it just comes from me observing being in a lot of churches and hearing the pastors speak and them sending aid to other countries

and them sending people to other countries.

And then I leave church and I drive down the road and I see a homeless guy right on the street corner.

And we have widows and orphans and poor and needy right in that area.

You could have a church and a slum one block away

from each other in America. Why are we sending all of our aid to people that we might never meet

in other countries that we've never been to rather than right down the road a block away

to the people who need it right there.

Man, that's a good question. Are they more valuable in other countries than the people who

need the gospel in our own? I think it's a really good question. I think the answers obviously,

no, they're not more valuable in other countries than they are here. But some interesting

statistics I want to go over are that we send 135,000 long-term missionaries to other countries each year.

So that's long-term.

They're staying there for a year to two years, to five years to ten years at a time.

And we're sending 135,000 of those each year.

We also send over 2 million people on short-term missionary trips to other countries

every single year.
