It's October. Spooky Month. I've decided to share a new

kind of series, kind of a twofer. Each episode will include a true crime case, as well as a

paranormal story, or a haunting, if you will. In the 1970s, people became fascinated with all things paranormal.

Maybe it began earlier than that.

The era of Charles Manson and his murderous family

was the beginning of the end for the peace and love hippie era,

and it ushered in a more cynical time for Americans.

We began to pay attention to those dark forces of evil

that were at work in the world,

but which we perhaps naively didn't realize existed.

After that time, many became fascinated with all things paranormal and supernatural.

The book The Exorcist, written by William Peter Bladdy, was published in 1971, and soon became a bestseller

which spawned the blockbuster movie of the same name two years later.

It tells the story of a demonic possession and attempted exorcism of a 12-year-old girl.

It gripped the imagination of the public and inspired many other novels, films, and television shows about demons, hauntings, and the paranormal.

In this episode, I'll share a story about a family who claimed their house was possessed by a malevolent supernatural force that drove them away in horror less than a month after moving into the property.

Others would say that it was all a publicity stunt designed to cash in on the public's fascination with the paranormal.
