Summary

This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE!

Originally constructed in 1839, the haunted Eloise Asylum was designed to be a place of refuge for the souls that society didn’t want to see. The mentally ill, rejected, poor, sick, and those that didn’t fit the mold of being “normal” would call the Eloise Asylum home. For over 100 years, the campus would grow to 75 buildings and house more than 8,000 patients at its peak. Eventually, the United States government chose to massively defund care for the mentally ill, which would result in the closing of the Elouise Asylum in the 1980s. At this time, the spirits of those who called Eloise home would find the silence a perfect platform to be heard again by the living.

Welcome to part two of our conversation with Todd Vonner of Detroit Paranormal about the haunted

Eloise asylum. As it was sitting empty early on and it was very much, you know, nobody can go in

these buildings. There's just going to sit here. Do you remember specifically what were some of

0:17.6

the stories that were going around in detail beyond just, oh, unexplained knocks or I saw somebody

0:24.7

in the window, any specific accounts that come to mind that you have heard about the facility

0:32.4

over the years and when it was vacant? Well, I had my own first, really my first Paranormal

experience. So in 1987, I was in high school as a junior in high school. Oasis, Sneak

and Eloise. And there was probably 40 buildings still up at that point. They didn't tear the majority

0:49.0

of them down. We park across the street, walk in, we go in the tunnels. There's a vast tunnel

0:54.1

system that connects all the buildings that would open up into a temporary morgue in the

0:58.4

middle of the complex, huge, huge underground facility. So we went to one of the big buildings.

1:04.4

It was around 400,000 square feet. It was a J building. Girl, I was dating the time and I broke out.

1:09.6

There's about five or six of us. And it was again, you have that. I've always loved that feeling of

1:15.2

fear for some reason. I can't, it's like a rush to me, even back when I was younger. So we went to

1:21.5

the basement of this building and there was files and files and file, patient files, boxes of them

1:27.1

everywhere from the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s. So we're looking through the files. I hear a male voice say,

1:35.2

what are you doing? You have to get out of here. And so I turned real quick. And then

1:40.3

the my girlfriend at the time said, who was that? I said, I don't know. I'm just glad

1:44.9

someone else heard it. But at that, even at that moment, I knew that it wasn't someone there.

1:50.5

It wasn't it was a voice, but it wasn't a human like in this time voice. So we went around looking

1:56.8

and calling out to everybody and there was no response. We ended up finding the other small group of

2:03.0

people were on the completely the other side of the building, not even close to us. There was nobody
