I'm Katie Balls, and I'm joined by James Forsyfe.

James, yesterday in the podcast, we spoke about the news that Arlene Foster had tended in her resignation as leader of the DUP.

We talked through some of the candidates, the dynamics of the race, a push potentially to

the right, a harder line in terms of their unionism. What are the developments today?

So the story today is an idea of gaining traction in DUP circles is splitting the role of

first minister and party leader. I think that makes it very likely about Edwin Putes, the

agricultural minister, would be the First Minister of Northern Ireland. But then there's talk of

having one of the parties, Westminster MPs, Geoffrey Donaldson or Robinson, take on the role of

party leader. And so you'd have one figure at Stormont

and then one figure as the leader of the party.

I think some of the appeal of that

is it will enable you to balance off

some of the factionalism in the party.

It's worth noting that they've all been in government

with Sinn Féin, so we should limit that.

But Pooz is definitely from the more

Paisley-Eight wing of the party, holds, to put it mildly, very traditional views on social issues.

Robinson and Donaldson both come from the more moderate wing of the party. Jeffrey Johnson
