where in the course of our time together today, I will introduce you to Britain's kindest plumber.

Perhaps not personally, but I shall certainly tell you

heartwarming tale. We'll have a look at Liz Truss and suggest that it's very unfair that she is

receiving criticism for accidentally breaching a ban on the sale of arms to Saudi Arabia.

We've all had bad days at work, haven't we? Give her a break.

Seriously, this is time for rapprochement.

Time for bridge building.

Who here can honestly say that they have never accidentally sold arms

that could be used in a conflict

which routinely sees innocence being slaughtered?

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

That's coming up later in the programme. I'm also drawn, as ever, to tales of incremental change to society that we don't notice because it's happening bit by bit. And we've got a dozy of one of those today.

Could we realistically be, what do you still need cash for, apart from illegal transactions or transactions that are off the books?

Suggesting this morning that we are moving towards a cashless society and that that could discriminate, particularly against poorer people.

Also, we'll probably have a look at that. We shall find out. And it's as if the Leveson inquiry never happened. You will remember, of course, that Rupert Murdoch sat before that committee in the houses of Parliament and described it as the humblest day of my life.

Experiences undergone over the last 48 hours by two British sportsmen, Ben Stokes and

Gareth Thomas, would rather suggest that the worst excesses, the sewer-dwelling tendencies

of some members of the fourth estate are back with a vengeance.

Challenge for me, of course, is how do we discuss particularly the Ben Stokes story

while respecting his wish not to divulge details of the story
