Harvard University has won a landmark case against the Trump administration,

with a federal judge restoring more than $2 billion in grants frozen by the government

over claims of anti-Semitism on campus.

Here's CNN's Betsy Klein with more.

U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs wrote in her decision that there was no obvious link between

the affected federal research projects and anti-Semitism.

She goes on to say that the administration used anti-Semitism as a smokescreen for a targeted,

ideologically motivated assault on this country's premier universities.

Now, this is a victory for Harvard for now, but the Trump administration is almost certain to

fire back. We heard almost immediately that the Trump administration plans to appeal.

White House spokesperson Liz Hustin says, quote, we will immediately move to appeal this egregious decision, and we are confident we will ultimately prevail in our efforts to hold Harvard accountable.
