How exactly do dirt and trees and fresh air make us feel better? Florence Williams will

be here to discuss her new book, The Nature Fix.

I stumbled on to a group of firefighters with PTSD in the woods and they were doing things

that I don't expect to see guys doing in the woods. Like they were holding hands and

doing partner yoga and I thought wow that is so interesting.

It's the latest fiction out of Argentina. Our own Gen Salai will be here to tell us about

three exciting new Argentinian novels.

In Savage theories and in Reekas' stories, the Dirty War is explicitly referenced. In

the Schwablin, there is an undercurrent of something sinister going on. The way that I read it

is that it had more to do with ecological disaster. Alexander Alter will give us news from

the literary world. Plus we'll talk about what we and the wider world are reading. This

Florence Williams joins us now. Her new book is called The Nature Fix. Why Nature makes

us happier, healthier and more creative. Florence thanks so much for being here.

Oh, it's my pleasure, thanks for having me.

What a happy topic. I want you to like fix my life through nature. What inspired you

to write it? I think what inspired me was my own personal move actually from living in

a place that was very nature connected. I lived in Colorado in Montana for two decades.

My husband took a job in Washington, DC. So we had to move to the hyperurb. And I just

noticed within my own sort of brain and body that I was really stressed out. And so I

wondered how much my environment had to do with that.
