Summary

Heather Darsie is joined by Brigitte Webster, Experimental Food Historian, to discuss what it's like to run (and own) a Tudor manor home. Brigitte and her husband also run The Tudor and 17th Century Experience: The Tudor and 17th Century Experience is the brainchild of Brigitte Webster. Born in Austria, Brigitte trained, and served as a school teacher for 25 years. Her qualification was in history and cooking, a combination that has finally come together in her career as a culinary historian currently working on a number of publications on international cuisine of the 16th Century. The Tudor and 17th Century Experience is a venture that finally allows her to share her passion for all things Tudor with a wider audience especially now that she and her husband have at last moved into their dream home, an authentic Tudor manor. She is supported in her venture by her husband, Tom who is a long standing history re-enactor, military adviser and owner of an historic firearms company. And this is the home that you have.

0:53.5

It's a grade one listed building, is that right?

0:56.1

That's correct, yes, because it has so many original features in place, and that makes it a

1:03.5

great one building, which is a lot rarer than the grade two. What are some of the rare features in the home? Well, probably the first

1:14.9

one that you would get to see when you come and visit is our front door, which still is the

1:21.7

original front door that was put in in around 1500. It's massive, it's oak, linen fold.

1:31.8

And yeah, I think it's probably what sold me right from the start when we first came to this place.

1:38.3

But we have also original ceilings, fireplaces, tiles on the floor, beams, you name it.

1:51.4

But one is probably the most exciting one for Tudor historians.

1:57.3

And that's we also have original Elizabethan wall paintings.
