We begin this morning with the new resistance, a protest movement that is adapting to a new Trump era where there's even more danger in speaking out,

but also more widespread pain to prompt dissent.

In all 50 states and Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico and in countries all over the world,

the people took a stand yesterday for democratic checks and balances,

for the preservation of essential government services for abortion rights

and speech rights and voting rights.

And they had two simple words for Donald Trump and Elon Musk, hands off.

Truly, there was no shortage of Trump administration policies to protest, nor was there

a shortage of places to protest.

Over 1,200 protests were planned in every nook and cranny of this country.

In big blue cities like Boston, where over 10,000 people marched,

and right here in New York City, where protesters shut down Fifth Avenue for 20 blocks.

And in Chicago, where organizers say 30,000 people flooded Daly Plaza.

And there were even more protests in Chicago suburbs.

Not to mention the nation's capital, where so many people were expected on the National Mall

that First Lady Melania Trump postponed White House Rose Garden tours.

Several Democratic representatives and organizers spoke at the D.C.

rally, including Congressman Maxwell Frost of Florida.

When you don't have all the power that you want, you use all the power that you got.

And that's what we have to do in this moment.
