This is Owen Bennett Jones, and there is breaking news just now,

because around 20 minutes ago, Hamas said that it had issued its response to the US ceasefire proposal,

and that has just come through.

And I'm going to read you most of it now, because we've been talking about this for two years.

It seems worth hearing this pretty much in full.

Here it goes.

The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas appreciates the Arab Islamic and international efforts,

as well as the efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump, calling for an end to the war on the Gaza Strip, a prisoner exchange,

the immediate entry of aid, the rejection of the occupation of the Gaza Strip and the displacement

of our Palestinian people from it. In this context, and in order to achieve a cessation of hostilities

and a full withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the movement announces its agreement to release

all Israeli prisoners, living and dead, according to the exchange formula contained in President

Trump's proposal, provided the field conditions for the exchange are met, and in this context

the movement affirms

its readiness to immediately enter negotiations through the mediators to discuss the details.

So that seems a very small caveat, basically on the details of how to, very sort of

detailed discussion of how to do the releases. But then this may be the important bit.

The movement also renews its agreement to hand over the administration of the Khazah Strip

to a Palestinian body of independence technocrats based on Palestinian national consensus

and Arab and Islamic support. Now, what does this next paragraph mean? The other issues
