Today's email is from Donna, an American uncanny fan.

She says, as a 16 year old girl in the early 80s, I got myself a weekend job

in what we in the US call a variety store. It sold everything from milk and meat to medicine

and furniture. The store had been run by the same family, the Albroes, since the 1930s,

and they still had an old wooden push-button cash register. Sometimes when I would try and register $10,

it would come up as $100.

The buttons were stiff and I know I didn't press $100.

I told Mrs. Albrone owner and she would just say,

Ah, that's my father-in-law, first and messing with you.

Another time, I turn my back all the five seconds and I heard a whooshing sound,

and when I turned there was bread strewn all across the floor.

I took a deep breath, now suspecting that I knew

who had done this. One afternoon someone came in and asked for some sliced meat. As I began

the walk down a long aisle with tin goods on either side, I suddenly saw in front of me coming around the corner from where I needed to go, a large blue translucent mass which stopped and disappeared into Finet.

When I got home, I told my parents about it.

My dad said that Thurston was a large man when he knew him in the 1950s.

A bit of a practical joker and he always wore blue

overalls.

And he died of a heart attack in the storage room just beyond when they sell the meat.
