Back then these bacteria were considered an annoyance or even a potential source of illness.

But in the last 20 years, we discovered these bacteria are actually crucial to our health.

Leading scientists now believe that a variety of microbes we have,

and the number of good versus bad bugs in our gut, may both play a huge part in our long term health.
