And today, we're going to talk about guns.

Well, not really. We're going to talk about guns. Well, not really. We're going to talk about gun violence. Okay, technically we're not going to talk so much about violence as the math behind it, the data, the statistics, as in

what kind of guns account for the most homicides are gun crimes all over America

or are they isolated inner cities or are they littered through the states that have the most guns?

So this is a math episode, but if there's one thing that can make statistics interesting,

it's loud noises accompanying deadly projectiles, which is why I never

graduated from calculus.

Before we jump in to the science and analysis of gun crime and gun violence, let me tell you why.

Why we're doing this today?

I think guns are probably the political topic most

informed by emotions and passion and least informed by data.

In fact, I would say it's even less data driven than the abortion debate.

Contentious though it is, in my experience,

pro-life people know a lot of facts about when a fetus has a heartbeat or grows eyes,

and pro-choice people know a lot of statistics about the prevalence of life-threatening pregnancies

or the frequency with which rapes lead to insimmination and so on and so forth.

It's a very contentious debate, but one which I find tends to include data points involving data.

Whereas gun rights and gun control sparked very heated arguments largely built around bumper stickers, affirisms, and frantic self-congratulatory feedback loops of in-group

logic endlessly circulated within the respective echo chambers. It's a heated debate and I want to get past the heat

and get into the actual nuts and bolts.
